Terran
There is a group of us (50+ ppl) that get together for a lan twice a year. However this time with Starcraft II a hot topic all we did was talk and discuss units and tactics. By the end of the day this is the general feeling about the Terran units. These are collective opinions and everyone is entitled to there own. If you dispute idea’s that’s great but please give a reason.
Infantry
Marine
The general feeling was that the marines bayonet should be removed, and the shield looks silly. One change that we would love to see is that when the marines are engaged in close combat fighting there weapon should switch to shotgun mode, this would look and sound awesome! But on the whole great to see the marines are still in service
Reaper
The reaper we consider to be a great unit all around no complaints, perfect addition to the Terran.
Ghost
So excited about the new ghost, the ghost needs to be beefed up like it has! Nukes are sweet, snipe seems cool but don’t really know if it will be used much, drop pods are a great addition, and we all hope for lock down. Just to top it we would love to see an air strike ability nothing game breaking i.e. enough to thin out a large swarm of zerglings/hydras or take down zealots shields. Laser dot the targets and wham two strike fighters hunt them down at super sonic speeds!
Medic
Personally we don’t like the concept of the medic; we would much prefer a mid game upgrade to increase the weapon and mech suit the marine wears. Turn him into a mini goliath type unit.
Viking
This is where we could see the Terran weapons heading towards. The concept is an old one but very appropriate for the Terrans. However in mech mode the unit looks hunched over and stupid, not to mention the attack animation is horrible. Easily fixed though =)
Banshee
Sweet unit enough said =)
Cobra
Interesting new unit, attacking on the move will be a huge annoyance for the enemy. Provided it is a scout type unit, low hp and fast movement speed we see know problem with it.
Thor
Now this unit has Terran written all over it! This bad boy looks insane; everybody had an opinion on this unit. The general opinion was “I can’t wait to use this guy”. However in the demonstration the Thor turned pretty fast. The kind of Thor we would like; super armour, medium movement speed in a straight forward direction, very slow turn speed, very high powered weapons, slow attack speed, greatest range in game, transportable buy hooking on to the underside of a battle cruiser! This unit needs to cost an arm and a leg but at the same time needs to be a beast!
Siege Tank
What’s new? Backbone of the Terran weapon of war!
Battle Cruiser
So very happy to see the single shot laser has been changed! The new photon cannons seem like a cool addition. Makes the battle cruiser serve a greater purpose than just being big! We had discussed the idea that the battle cruiser should have a star warp ability hence being able to warp to any part of the map u have vision of.
Units we would like to see
Science vessel
Everyone knows this unit is essential why change it? Just revamp it with cool new abilities =) make it bigger tougher and cost more if need be. Ships need to be able to dock on it, repair etc. Scv’s should not repair ships unless they can land!
Goliath
The Viking is no substitute for this unit! Terran had a problem with AA in Broodwar removing the Goliath would cripple the Terrans. Change its name make it look fancy, give it some cool ability…….please don’t axe it!
Strike Fighter/Raptor/Viper
This unit would be the Terrans answer to AA! Super sexy, shiny black, stealthy looking, armed to the teeth with fancy weapons! This unit needs to have medium armour, extreme speed and an ability to launch a crippling air to air missile. When this missile is used the unit must return to its star base and re-equip in order to re use this weapon! In one on one combat this unit should dominate a phoenix! Protoss have the heavy ship advantage, Terran needs this unit to dominate that middle ground. This is not a crappy wrath. This unit is the pinnacle of Terran technology and engineering.
